Dr. Rana Sobh

Director, Core Curriculum Program

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Core Curriculum Program (CCP) website.  The CCP oversees the courses that all students must take as part of their degree requirements beyond their majors.  The different packages and courses within packages ensure that all students develop a common set of core competencies such as effective communication in Arabic and English, critical thinking, information literacy etc.

By taking courses from outside their majors, students become rounded and gain a broad perspective on life. For instance, an engineering student should be exposed to the field of humanities and social sciences to have a better understanding of oneself and society. For the same reason, a student majoring in history should have the opportunity to take science courses to understand the scientific laws that govern the universe. In addition, the program strives to instill students with a distinctive set of attributes and dispositions needed for excellence in a diverse and dynamic context. These include ethics, social responsibility, leadership, creativity and entrepreneurial mindsets.

Our aim is to provide QU students with the skills and attributes necessary for them to become agents of change and lead the socio-economic development in Qatar and the region.

One of the first courses you would take in the CCP is UNIV100 Seminar, a course offered to first-year students to acculturate them to the academic, social and emotional demands of university studies. This course is designed to ensure retention and successful degree completion.

We are working on enhancing the CCP to support Qatar University vision to transformation and better reflect our ideals and aspirations as a national university. As I always encourage my students to be creative, innovative and never settle on less than their best, I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to take part in improving our program for yourself, your classmates and future students. Shall you have any ideas to improve the CCP at any time, please do not hesitate in communicating your thoughts to

We are in the process of building content and updating our website and we promise the outcome will meet your expectations!
